1 - Entered xbox.com
2 - Log in
3 - "Hey, it's been years since you've updated your personal data. Is *********28 still your mobile number?" - As a matter of fact, no.
4 - Click no
5 - "We will double check it's actually you. So we'll send you a confirmation code. Do you want to send it to your mobile phone ********28?"
6 - Click to send it to another number, fill form
8 - "Do you want to change your number to ********10? We'll have to double check that."
7 - "Since we couldn't send you a text and you can't access your email. Do you want to send the confirmation to your backup email account? he********@gmail.com?"
8 - Click Yes
9 - "Since we can't confirm right away all that's true we'll send you an email until May 25th. If you don't receive an email with the confirmation code unit then, contact Microsoft support".
Now they won't let me log into my xbox live account. It keeps asking if the confirmation has arrived.
Have the poster for the biggest Brazilian Rally for your troubles.

Yeah... their user verification and support is horrible.
All of this wouldn't be nearly as horrible if it was immediate. But 30 freaking days until I can complain?

I finally just remembered the pw from setting that email up and was able to slide through that and enter new email/phone/info. I got lucky.

Great!
I never had a password issue. I'm just sitting here waiting for that freaking confirmation code.

I recently downloaded an app called Keeper and I store all my pw's in that sob. It also synchs between my personal and work phones which are android/windows respectively.

Back in 2009 the debit card I was using for LIVE expired. Microsoft attempted to take funds from it and it took them two weeks to realize it was an expired card. So what do they do? Suspend me for a month.
Once the suspension was lifted I noticed that my email address was changed to the phonetic spelling of my Gamertag @live.com...And the password? Who knows what that was changed to. Something I didn't do. Dafuq?
So I called Microsuck support (which at that time, was still outsourced) and of course, they denied any knowledge of such. They told me to attempt logging into the new email (they kept accusing me of forgetting my password).
I tried logging into the new email address, surprise, surprise it didn't actually exist.
So I called back, and they "escalated" it to some higher up people, who took 5 days to tell me that they couldn't do anything.
After that, those people "escalated" it to even higher people. People who would suspend my account to "investigate" for two weeks then come back with nothing.
I would then have to repeat the process all over again. I did this for four damn years. Had anything happened to my HDD I would lose my Gamertag forever. But thankfully that never happened.
Finally, a week before the release of GTA V I snapped. I begged them, all I wanted them to do was reset my email address and password. For four years that's all I wanted them to do. I don't care who screwed me over in 2009, I just wanted to be able to have access to my Gamertag and Live ID again.
The person on the phone said "no problem" and that was it. They sent me a temporary login
Really, was it that hard to fulfill my request? That it would take four years, multiple suspensions, and talking to people with some of the thickest accents in the universe?
If it weren't for Halo, I would've dumped Microsuck for Sony long ago.

Holy shit! This is horrible! 4 freaking years!
Whoa, that's waaaaay worse than what's happened to me. It's something really stupid and shows clearly how badly tied together all of their system is.
My wife has a Windows Phone. Pretty early adopting. There wasn't even a Brazilian Store for apps. So we had to set it to US. No worries for the first few months, until she felt the need to use apps that weren't free. So we needed to set a card for it. But there was no way to set Brazil in the billing address. So we had do cheat on their system and set it with an address in the US that matched our ZIP address. It worked.
And when there finally was a Brazilian store, she couldn't use her account anymore, and whenever we tried to set the account to Brazil, it said there was an error. It took us 3 months until they could resolve it. Also escalated multiple times until we snapped, then it was moved to another type of cotomer sevis where the person responded with "oh, wait. The problem is you just need to move the account from US and set it as BR? Why didn't you tell me sooner? Ok, done, bye".
But even with all this crap, she bought a new Windows Phone (Lumia 925).

That's good but an eight types, nonsense word in Italian (while the web speaks english) is is just as efficient, for the sites that are not very important to me... it's quite satisfactory to access e.g. a blog that you didn't join for six months and when it asks for your password, you type the magic word and get a "welcome back, Robert!". As I've said, I only use two serious passwords for my bank account and my personal e-mail. All the others sites, and I mean ALL of them are accessed through my universal, eight letters password. And I use xxxxxxxx for my work pc and replace it with zzzzzzzz when I'm asked to every two weeks, just to set it back to xxxxxxxx. Never had A SINGLE trouble, in 25 years of use of the internet.

Yep, Microsoft used to be (probably still is) bloody awful with customer service. You present them with a problem with a simple solution and they go about over-complicating everything.

I just bought a Mac..........because Windows 8.
(Jalopnik's simple image resizer thingy program being Mac-based doesn't hurt, but yeah. Mostly because Windows 8 is an unusable pile of doodie.)

Makes it hard not to be seen as an Apple fanatic. But since I've got both a Mac and an iPhone I really can't go back. They play along so well and are so ridiculously well thought out and stable that I really can't think about ever buying something outside this environment again.
Did you buy a MacBook or an iMac?

I cant reuse a pw for 12 months at my work so i have the same phrase with the current mmyy at the end of it and we have to change them every 30 days, such a pain.
I have about 3 passwords I use extensively, what I hate though is some logins do not require a capital letter so if I use a cap and it doesnt go through I don't even think to use a lowercase letter instead and just keep trying other passwords until it is locked.
